A Feel Good Moment

Not at all related to The Hip Infant, this is just one of those feel good stories we had to share.

Police officer Jiang Xiaojuan is being hailed as ‘China’s mother of the year’…so what did she do to earn this most honorable title? well she answered the calls for help during China’s recent devastating earthquakes.

As a mother to a 6 months old baby boy Jiang left him to be cared for by others and headed to the affected areas where she took it upon herself  to start breastfeeding babies, at one stage she was feeding 9 babies!For more info on ‘China’s mother of the year’ read CNN

It breaks our heart to think about all of those poor babies separated from their parents, scared and hungry amongst chaos. With the earthquake death toll now at 69000 and many more missing , its the many feel good stories (like this one) that come out of such a tradgedy that makes it all somehow palatable.

A Dear Old Friend

Well its time for a confession, we thought we could get rid of these little guys. You know the drill out with the old in with the new. But a couple of months without these little bundles of joy and we were lost. The truth is we have such a soft spot for the Alimrose Monkey Rattles they have been with us since The Hip infant opened its cyber doors back in 2005. So the great news is they are back in  stock and ready and waiting for new homes, we assure you they will be as loved by your little one as they are by us!

The modern nursery look isn’t for everyone. We think its divine and had to share this find with you.

Fab Blog Ohdeedoh does regular nursery features which is certainly worth a look if you are looking for inspirational ideas. Really Cool Little Socks…..

We know, we know boxed socks are a dime a dozen these days, but when we stumbled upon Jazzy Toes we could not resist for a few reasons.

Firstly they have the most divine range of Mary Janes ever!

What’s so special about them we hear you say? well they come in the larger 12-24 months size which is great news, as other brands only go up to 12 months. Again unlike other brands the Mary Jane (shoe) part is coloured in soft pink, lilac and mint unlike the more traditional black pairs that can be quite harsh on little babes.

Also check out their great Sneakers they also come in the larger size and the colours are fab. There are also a few styles that are totally different and very cool the Deck Shoes and Cowboy Boots are defiantly worth a mention.

Each box of Jazzy Toes contains six pairs of socks. They are made from 75% cotton, 20% nylon, 5% spandex which means they have enough oomph to stay in shape yet still gentle on babies feet.

Why Plastics Not So Fantastic

Its hard to believe those of us born and raised prior to the 80’s are here to tell their stories. After all car seats didn’t exist, breasts were for something other than feeding babies and sausages really were made from lips and well you know the rest

Thank goodness we have evolved somewhat and have learnt through experience to make changes for the better.

There has been lots of talk about BPA free and we have to admit it was something us folk at The hip Infant was blissfully unaware of…well that was until we did a bit of research that well and truly opened our eyes. We also must admit there was a little guilt involved as our very own little hipsters have at some stage in their young lives sipped, sucked or slurped from some offending plastics.

So whats it all about? in a nutshell “In February 2007, the public advocacy group Environment California Research & Policy Center published a report titled Toxic Baby Bottles: Scientific Study Finds Leaching Chemicals in Clear Plastic Baby Bottles. The report describes the harmful effects of the hormone-disrupting chemical bisphenol A (BPA), a developmental, reproductive, and neural toxicant found in polycarbonate plastic—the material used to make the vast majority of baby bottles.” (www.greentogrow.com/bisphenol.aspx)

The results to this study were referred to as controversial, it resulted in huge lawsuits in the USA and even saw the removal of a very well known and used brand, being banned and removed from store shelves in Canada.

There are those that suggest even if there is a hint of truth to this study and all the associated findings why would you bother risking it when there are so many BPA Free feeding products available. We shall let you make up your own mind, meantime have a look here for some light reading.

Models Wanted!

It is with absolute pleasure that we announce the fabulous Barb Uil from Jinky Art is again gracing us with her amazing photography skills. It seems its just not us that is obsessed with her check out what her fans worldwide are saying, they call it Jinky-Fied!

Which bring us to this…we need models! mainly newborns 2-4 weeks but please if you have a baby that loves showing of for the camera flick us an email attach a pic of your little treasure (please resize it to 400 pixels if possible, as huge files take ages to open and mess with our already overloaded email server)

Each lucky babe chosen gets the pleasure of spending an hour with Barb, a few complimentary images and of course the opportunity to star on The Hip Infant and all advertising paraphernalia…trust us its great viewing for the grandparents and certainly something for the memory book! The shoot date is set for early July in Willoughby Sydney.

Check out our very own divine little Miss Hip … Coco..our baby is growing so fast, she has almost hit the terrible twos! It seems like just yesterday Barb took this photo (almost a year ago)..sigh. But one things for sure our Coco & Eli muslin wraps are as lush and as loved as ever, mums still rave about them and they really are the most unique muslin wrap on the market.
